Finishing is a mix of technique, mindset and decision-making. Here are core principles I repeat with young players.

1) Prepare your body shape

Open your hips and take a quick scan on the goalkeeper before striking. Good body shape creates consistency.

2) Your touch sets the shot

A long touch buys time for defenders; a short touch can kill balance. Train a touch rhythm that matches your speed.

3) Choose “hard-to-save” angles

Power is not always required. Low shots to the far corner or guided near-post finishes can be higher percentage.

Suggested drills

  • 10 minutes: far-corner placements (2 touches).
  • 10 minutes: near-post low shots (1 touch).
  • 10 minutes: cut-inside finishing.
